The quiet cost of masking

For many neurodivergent people, getting through a workday means masking: constantly hiding how they think and work to seem like everyone else. It is exhausting, and it slowly wears down wellbeing and belonging. Talented people spend energy on blending in that could go into the work itself. Too often, they burn out or leave.

A better way to work

There is a better way. Instead of asking people to change to suit the job, the job can change to suit the person. The challenge was to make that real and easy to reach: a course that helps neurodivergent adults reshape work around real strengths, build good connections, and see the value in how they are wired, in a way that feels safe and genuinely useful.

Designed, built, and tested

This went well beyond a lesson plan. It was grounded in real research on wellbeing and motivation, not gut feel, and it grew into a full learning experience: a course to work through at any pace, plus a custom web app built from scratch. Learners could explore what they value, reshape the tasks and relationships of a job, and gently shift how strengths are seen. Real people tested it, and honest reactions, some of them hard to hear, shaped what worked and what needed to change, so it stayed safe, clear, and human throughout.

Early signs, real promise

Even with a small first group, the signs were good. People came away feeling more able to shape work around what they do best, and more supported in being themselves at work. Just as important, a real, tested course now exists, ready to grow with more people and more research. The belief underneath is not complicated. Neurodivergent minds deserve to be valued for how they think, not tolerated for hiding it. This is proof it can be built that way.
